Welcome to the Diehl lab.  We are part of the Center for Perceptual Systems and Cognition and Perception in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin.

As a lab, we are devoted to understanding how people perceive speech.  Our current focus is at the level of the phoneme.  We use various methods to achieve this goal; including acoustic analysis of natural speech, perceptual identification and discrimination of synthetic speech sounds, perceptual identification and discrimination of non-speech sounds, and the representation of speech sounds in computer models of the auditory nerve.
